One of the hardest parts of growing new alternative currencies like Shire Silver is getting new people on board. There's the catch-22 of "why would we accept this if not enough others do", which is a hard nut to crack.
However, these difficult economic times give us an edge. We have a user base of potential customers, perhaps dozens of people who are currently holding Shire Silver cards just in Manchester alone. For some merchants, getting 5-10 new customers can make their week. read more »

PorcFest was a great time, but its not the only large summer freedom celebration here in New Hampshire. The 5th annual Live Free Or Die Rally (LFODR) is coming up.
This event will likely have several hundred participants, as well as live bands, cannon fire, and all sorts of other activities that free people enjoy. There will also be vendors, and Shire Silver fully intends to be in the thick of it. read more »

Our second day at the Free State Project's Liberty Forum was a blast! We talked to lots of freedom lovers and had some more in depth discussions with some of the other silver promoters there.
One of the most interesting vendors at the Liberty Forum was the Silver Circle movie crew. They are making a feature length animated thriller-romance movie (quite possibly in 3-D) about the struggle by some rebels in a slightly dystopian world to take on the Federal Reserve. Unfortunately, the dystopian world envisioned in the film isn't really all that different from the real world.

This weekend we have been introducing the new Shire Silver card format at the Free State Project's annual Liberty Forum. So far the response has been overwhelming! (Literally. Ron slept ten hours last night recovering from the exhilaration.)
Almost everyone thought the card containing the actual metal was a very good idea. Even those who didn't immediately love the idea were willing to suggest ways to improve the product. We also got some new ideas for marketing as well as some very interesting business ideas. (We'll try to give credit where it is due, but please forgive us if we forget. It was a very busy and exciting day.)

Lately I've been reading more and more about some ways in which society as a whole, and the economy in particular are going to change due to technology. One of the big forces on today's scene is open source software. This site for one is based on the open source system Drupal. The amount of power and flexibility just this one particular piece of programming gives an individual is amazing.
